Co-host lets you bring a second person on screen during an Apptile Live show, such as a brand partner, a stylist, a model, or a fellow boutique owner. Your guest waits until you let them in, so nobody appears in your broadcast unannounced. Viewers see you and your guest together in one video on your app and on any social channels you stream to.
Co-host is an add-on. To turn it on for your store, email support@apptile.com.
Who does what
Role | Joins from | Can do |
Host | Apptile Live app (phone or iPad), or desktop via Join as Host | Goes live, sees waiting guests, admits or dismisses them, changes the layout and removes a guest |
Guest (co-host) | The invite link | Waits until admitted, then appears on the broadcast with camera and mic |
Moderator | Desktop Live Dashboard via Join as Moderator | Can admit a waiting guest, and runs products, comments, polls, giveaways and notifications |
How to add a co-host
Create your stream on the Live Dashboard and go to Guests, and click "Invite Guest".
You see a QR code or token to share with the guest.
Your guest scans the QR code with their phone, or download the Apptile Live app and click on Continue as guest.
If they've scanned the QR code, they just need to enter their name and click Continue. If they received a token instead, they should paste it into the Invite section, enter their name, and then click Continue.
You see a banner saying "Waiting to join", with Admit and Remove buttons. A moderator on desktop can admit the guest too.
Tap Add to bring your guest on air, then pick a layout. Dismiss keeps them off the broadcast.
Controls during the show
Once your guest is on air, choose one of three layouts. What you see on your screen is exactly what viewers see.
Layout | What it looks like | Good for |
Split | You on top, your guest below, both the same size | A conversation or side-by-side try-ons |
Host main | You full screen, your guest in a small floating tile | You lead, and your guest chimes in |
Guest main | Your guest full screen, you in a small floating tile | Handing the show to a guest or brand partner |
Move the tile: in Host main or Guest main, drag the floating tile anywhere on screen.
Remove a guest: take your guest off air at any time. They leave the broadcast immediately, and your show continues.
Rejoin: if you leave and rejoin while a guest is on air, your stream picks up again almost instantly.
Guest camera off: viewers see a placeholder image in your guest's tile.
What viewers see
Viewers see one combined video of you and your guest, in the layout you picked. It goes to your app and to any channels you're streaming to, like Facebook and Instagram. Shopping, comments, polls, and giveaways work just as they do in a solo show. Viewers don't need to do anything when a guest joins or leaves; the layout just changes.
Best practices
Send the invite well before the show, and ask your guest to join a few minutes early so they're waiting when you go live.
Have a moderator on desktop. They can admit your guest so you don't have to break flow.
Agree on a layout beforehand. Use Host main for a quick cameo and Split for a real conversation.
Ask your guest to sit somewhere well lit with a stable internet connection, because their video is part of your broadcast.
